Madam, - I read with interest of Isme chief executive Mark Fielding's disgust at the apparent disparity in public sector and private sector pay. His remark that "the higher earning levels in the public sector are a triumph of public sector avarice, greed and bureaucracy over enterprise" seems a bit over the top.
While it cannot be disputed that there are serious issues with productivity and bureaucracy in some areas of the public service, he shows no acknowledgment that the small businesses which he represents are making the most of the recent influx of migrant workers by driving down private sector pay. Maybe if the private sector were not so obsessed with the "race to the bottom" this disparity would not be so large. - Yours, ect,
