Sir, – I note that a civil servant received a €1.1 million severance package and had seven years of notional service added to reach this figure ("Civil servant's severance raised to ¤1.1m", Front Page, April 6th).
I also see that the secretary general of the Department of of Public Expenditure and Reform has defended the low starting salaries for civil and public servants, citing market realities ("Entry pay for public servants defended", April 6th).
Sure isn’t it a great little country altogether. – Yours, etc,
