A chara, - "The Gaeilge groups, all of whom are dependent on the State, should be pulled into line" is a recent sound-bite from Senator Joe O'Toole (The Irish Times, August 23rd).

Perhaps the INTO secretarygeneral should be pulled into line by all those INTO members upon whose contributions he is so dependent for election as senator (and for subsequent invitations to air his tiresomely repetitious views at summer schools).

A recent declaration of financial assistance to politicians showed Senator O'Toole to be well ahead of other Senate members thanks to the generosity of his union. But, as a member of several of those "Gaeilge groups" described as schizophrenic by the well-informed Senator, perhaps this is just my schizophrenic way of perceiving "democracy".

One awaits the day when the secretary-general/senator avails himself of the "free movement" he so ardently advocates for others. One imagines that there may be some strings attached. - Is mise,
