Madam, - The Horse Trials at Punchestown have been advertised as the biggest equestrian event in the world this year - but where is the coverage on RTE TV? As usual there is none. Yet next weekend an army of reporters will be dispatched to the far flung corners to cover every piddling league game of soccer or rugby, not to mention every two-bit golf tournament.
The obsession with balls, whether large or small, oval, round or dimpled, is marginalising the interests of thousands. All we can hope for is that the "ball people" never again qualify for any tournaments. Then we might get a bit of the variety that a national public service broadcaster is supposed to provide.
Finally, I note that even The Irish Times couldn't manage a dressage photo last Friday even though an Irishwoman was lying second at a European event. - Yours, etc.,
