Putting Nitelink on notice

Madam, - A few days ago, I decided to take the Nitelink bus from College Green. When I arrived to get the 12.30am bus there were a few people waiting. I had often taken the Nitelink, which leaves at 12.30am and 2am from Monday to Thursdays, but a sign on the bus stop informed us that there was no service between Sunday and Wednesday. This came as a surprise, as I had taken this bus on numerous occasions on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Most of the people waiting decided to leave in search of taxis but I continued to wait in hope. At approximately 12.25am the bus arrived and, as usual, departed at 12.30am. I asked the driver and he told me that, yes, there would be another bus at 2 am. What was the explanation, I asked. He wasn't sure, he said, but he had a sneaking feeling that Dublin Bus was intending to cancel the Nitelink from Sunday to Wednesday.

That still would not explain why the notice was on the bus stop when buses were, in fact, running. There is a need for a decent bus service at night but, apart from that, surely the travelling public deserves a little more courtesy from Coras Iompair Éireann. - Yours, etc.,
