Sir, - There have been a number of letters in your newspaper recently concerning Quality Bus Corridors. Let me make the AA's position quite clear.
The AA supports the concept of Quality Bus Corridors. The "key elements" of a QBC, as laid out in paragraph 10.5.7 of the DTI final report in 1994, include "Park and Ride. . .integrated ticketing. . .real-time passenger information. . .", high-quality bus shelters with telephones and other facilities. When a QBC lacks all these "key elements", as is the case on the Bray road, it becomes merely a bus lane.
This is not what the DTI report promised for Dublin City. It does not constitute a viable alternative for the majority of car users. More of the same offered by Dublin Bus and Dublin Corporation will only make the lives of car drivers more difficult and will not force them off the roads. - Yours, etc.,
Paul Bushnell, Managing Director, AA Ireland, Suffolk Street, Dublin 2.
