A chara, – I wonder just how many of our supine politicians are going to tackle Britain’s monarch on the sectarian nature of the state of which she is head.
One can only be of the Anglican faith in order to hold that title and furthermore, Catholics are specifically forbidden by law from the role. Surely under the spirit, if not the letter, of the Belfast Agreement, it is time to put an end to this feudal anomaly? – Is mise,

Madam, – Regarding the street parties and “royal” themed menu which Brian Kearney suggests we should organise to demonstrate our appreciation for the impending royal visit, (March 17th), may I suggest that her majesty be given a large dollop of humble pie? If this remains untouched she should be given some cold shoulder or perhaps hot tongue. – Yours, etc,
Madam, – With all due respect, the future royal visit should be cancelled and the €16 million quoted for “security” sent immediately to the desperate people of Japan. To have any monarch strutting their stuff while little children are starving and drowning is, to say the least, revolting and immoral. I hope these few lines written as I approach my 90th birthday will touch the hearts and pockets of the Irish people. – Yours, etc,
