Our queen will not apologise to Ireland for establishing its first university, its first city, its roads, its canals, its basic law system or anything else. She does not grovel to malcontents, nor do her subjects expect her to.
Many of us suspect she does not care for the prospect of an Irish visit, given the murders, in her reign, of her ambassador, her Ministers, her soldiery, her citizens and her dear “Uncle” Mountbatten, all in the name of Ireland.
In any visit she would probably stay with the President, a woman not noted for her warmth toward Britain. The queen may have noted the comparison of middle- class Catholic life in the North to life under Nazi-ism. No, our queen will probably stay at home.
