MARGARET MOORE,
Madam, - As we approach the first birthday of our new currency I find I have no regret at the passing of the "punt". The euro, despite all the complaints, has been a boon to travellers and businesses trading abroad.
But I do miss the "quid". That wonderful pet name for the punt in our pockets has gone without any fanfare. The "quid" was the true common currency. So rather than waste another minute coming up with witty names for the Millennium Spire, we should focus our energies on finding a suitable nickname for the euro. However, do note that "fast buck" has already been suggested and rejected. - Yours, etc.,
MARGARET MOORE, Saval Park Road, Dalkey, Co Dublin.
