Sir, - It is obvious from our research that many sporting organisations in this country do not consider racism, in or out of the sports arena, as a serious issue.

Of all the sporting bodies we have contacted, only the Irish Amateur Boxing Association and The Irish Cricket Union have chosen to join our free membership supporters list.

This is indeed a sad reflection on our collective attitude to the emerging multicultural society in Ireland. We do, however, welcome the support of the Irish-born Minister for Sport in the UK, Kate Hoey, while our own Minister for Sport, Dr James McDaid, remains silent on the sideline. - Yours, etc.,

Ken McCue, Director, Sport Against Racism Ireland, Great Strand Street, Dublin 1.
