Racist abuse in Dublin

Madam, - On Monday, August 14th, while waiting in my car in Marlborough Street at 4.55 pm reading Fr Aidan Troy's Holy Cross - A Personal Experience, I witnessed the following.

A black woman and three young children, little more than toddlers, were walking in the Parnell Street direction, a couple of paces beyond the Department of Education's Primary Branch. A middle-aged, ashen-faced cyclist, cycling in the same direction, verbally abused this woman as he cycled past.

Whether it is sectarianism on the Ardoyne Road 2001 or racist remarks in Dublin city centre 2006, the legacy some adults are passing on diminishes us as a civilised society. - Yours, etc,

FRANK BURKE, Fortfield Drive, Terenure, Dublin 6W.
