Sir, - Whatever the prosperity or otherwise of Radio Ireland, I resent its take-over of the same wavelength allotted to Classic FM from the UK (FM 100-102 MHz).

Although Classic FM is only a sort of "Listener's Digest" of classical music, it provides, with BBC Radio 3, the only available source of classical music during the daytime hours. RTE's FM3 is excellent when it is on air, but at present it provides only 1 1/2 hours in the early morning and four hours from 7.30 p.m. Until it is extended, as I hope it will be, to cover the whole day, it is very unwelcome to have the Classic FM channel virtually obliterated (except on sophisticated receivers) by the stronger signal from Radio Ireland. - Yours, etc.,
