Madam, - Considering the current state of the road margins in the country in general and the N7 (Naas Road) in particular, might I suggest that South Dublin County Council adopt forthwith the noxious weed ragwort and the seeding thistle for inclusion in its coat of arms as an indication of this council's willingness to allow these nuisances to flourish and propagate freely on its roadways? - Yours, etc,

Dublin 6.

Madam, - Travelling recently from Killarney to Waterford, I was astonished at the proliferation of ragwort on the roadsides. The Noxious Weeds Act decrees that this most poisonous of weeds should be rigorously cut before it flowers.

In the not too distant past gardaí were most diligent in visiting farms to enforce this law. A return to that wholesome practice is most desirable.
