Railway station hygiene

adam, - The chairman of Iarnród Éireann is running advertisements promoting improvements to the rail network and trains. The rail infrastructure may now be closer to European norms but the facilities at the stations are still sub-third world.

Tara Street, Ireland's busiest station has no toilets, so it is not surprising that you may find excrement on the platforms. Pearse Station's small toilet stinks so much your eyes water. Connolly has a toilet but, incredibly, customers are charged for using it!

Irish Rail carries 38 million passenger journeys a year, with many customers spending more time on the platforms than on trains. It does not matter how good the trains are. If the stations remain decrepit, with no toilets and long queues they will never lure the motorist. - Yours, etc,
