Railways and greenways

Sir, – I want to reassure Gaye Manifold (Letters, August 17th) that the vast majority of us in the North West desperately want an equal footing with the rest of the country regarding rail and road infrastructure.

It is unfortunate that a vociferous group campaigning against the development of our railways in the west get far more airtime on the letters page of The Irish Times than those of us who see the benefits of more jobs and tourism that proper road and rail infrastructure in the west bring.

With the general election almost upon us it is vital that all candidates are made aware that the West needs significant infrastructural investment. Don’t fob us off with cycle tracks!
