Ramps And Speedsters

Sir, - Ramps have been introduced in recent years in an attempt to reduce the speed of cars driven by lunatics. The ramps come in all shapes and sizes and frankly I doubt if they achieve the desired result.

They need to be redesigned to make the maximum impact on a car driven beyond the legal speed limit and force all of us to drive more slowly in built-up areas.

The existing ramp allows the driver to approach it head on, i.e., the two front wheels mount the ramp together and leave it on the exit side in the same way. Similarly with the back wheels. The design of ramps in my area is such that it is a pleasant experience to traverse these, somewhat similar to sailing on a fine Summer's day!

The solution is to lay down a ramp diagonally. The wheels would then mount the ramp in a staggered fashion and this would cause an uncomfortable experience in a car driven at speed. And with a number of very narrow ramps laid diagonally in a group rather than the single wider ones now in use, it would soon put manners on those who believe they can drive as if they were in Mondello Park. - Yours, etc.,
