Sir, - John Connolly's article on the bizarre deaths of rock stars ("An Irishman's Diary", September 17th) was black humour indeed, though no less readable for it. However, while some of the "drugs" deaths might have been more properly ascribed to alcohol, there is one error which must be addressed.

Randy Rhoads did not die as a result of his own actions; rather, he was asleep on the tour bus that the plane crashed into. Randy was no wildman, risking his life for thrills. On the contrary, he was one of the other breed, a serious musician, and his tragic death at such an early age was a great loss to his family and the music world. - Yours, etc.,
