Madam, - Kathryn Holmquist's article "Dealing with the reality of teen sex" created a huge response in my class.
We felt it was a misrepresentation of the majority of teenage girls. The generalisations given apply only to an extreme minority, and I think we know best.
"Not pecks on cheek, but hands up skirt, full foreplay fantasy" - such a sweeping assumption is unfair and we dread to think of our parents reading this and thinking we would behave in such a fashion. Personally I have never been witness to such "foreplay" in nightclubs.
Miss Holmquist's sources obviously have very little self-respect. I would like to inform her and the general public that, unlike her specially chosen cases, the majority of us self-assured adolescent girls possess a certain pride and dignity in ourselves, forbidding us to lower ourselves to such a worthless level.
Such a stereotype and portrayal is offensive and degrading to those of us who have standards. - Yours, etc.,
