Rebranding the Liberties

Madam, - As a Dubliner living abroad, I take great interest in promoting Dublin as a great city of culture and history. So many people who have visited Ireland seem to say they didn't enjoy Dublin, saying it is too expensive and has far less identity than cities such as Galway, Cork and Kilkenny and large towns such as Tralee and Killarney.

Dublin City Council is obviously of the same opinion when it presents "SoHo" as an apt name for the regeneration of part of the Liberties.

With all the revisionism taking place with regard to the 1916 Rising, is it too much to ask that Dublin holds on to some of its great history and identity? Let other cities and towns copy Dublin and not the other way around. - Yours, etc,

Madam, - Thomas Legge makes a very valid point (April 15th) in recommending that the Liberties should keep its distinctive name. And orthographically speaking, SoHo cannot possibly stand for "South of Heuston Station" - unless that too is to undergo some sort of "rebranding". - Yours, etc,
