Madam, – Of late, I have noticed a profound change in my media habits.
Prior to March 2008, whenever I opened a newspaper, I immediately turned to the sports pages.
Now it's straight to the business.
I search the print for references to credit ratings, GDP, GNP, recapitalisations, shocks, corrections and the economic cycle. Each night I religiously tune to the airwaves, hoping to catch the latest sermons from McCarthy, McWilliams, McDowell and McCoy.
Economists: the most unlikely celebrities of the 21st century.
I think I have developed a psychosis. I have named it "Recession Obsession".
Are there others like me out there? Is there some sort of group I can join?
And most importantly, will the new health service budget have provisions to treat this terrible condition? – Yours, etc,
JOHN LALOR,
Watling Street,
Dublin 8.
Madam, – The last days of the Celtic Tiger have witnessed many dramatic examples of low standards in high places.
Should those responsible be known as Celtic Cheetahs? – Yours, etc,
JOHN COX,
St Margaret's Road,
Malahide,
Co Dublin.
