Reeling out the repeats

Sir, – Further to Dermot Foley's letter (November 9th), I suspect the endless repeats of Reeling in the Years are an attempt by the state broadcaster to compensate for the loss of history as a core subject for study in the Junior Cert.

Admittedly the series only addresses the major events and popular music of the years from 1970 to 2009. Lob in a few showings of Michael Collins and you've got the rest of the 20th century sorted. – Yours, etc,

R McDERMOTT,

Rathgar, Dublin 6.
