Sir, - Ivana Bacik's commentary on abortion (Opinion, December 24th) was informed and compassionate. Ignored are the voices of women and their partners who make the difficult and expensive trip to England for surgical termination.
And not just Irishwomen are affected by the arrogant theocracy. I am an American living and working in Dublin who had an abortion in February, and negotiating the legal and medical system here was a brutal and isolating experience.
I wish that the pro-lifers had as much concern for the real, live children begging and sleeping rough on our streets as they have for an eight-week-old embryo. - Yours, etc.,
