Sir, – Today I noted referendum posters asking for a Yes vote for children. Last week I contributed to Liveline on a children’s issue. The specialist physiotherapist who looks after the 120 children with cystic fibrosis at Temple Street Children’s Hospital is leaving and may not be replaced. Their parents are understandably very worried.
I understand this referendum is costing about €13 million. Replacing the physiotherapist will cost about €35,000-€40,000 per annum and some of this will be returned to the Government in income tax, superannuation, pension levy and universal social charge.
Will this referendum ensure that children get the medical treatment they need? I don’t think so. – Yours, etc,
