Refunding the water charges

Sir, – The saga of Irish Water descends to further farce with the suggestion that the installed meters might be used to penalise those who exceed the recommended usage. This is despite the fact that many households remain unmetered and therefore cannot be monitored. It would be an extraordinary irony if these were the very people who refused to pay the charge in the first place. I wonder as a taxpayer who funded the installation of these meters in the first place, and paid in full the water charge, if I have the right to demand that my meter is disconnected from the network on the basis that it may now be used to my disadvantage and is already approaching obsolescence. – Yours, etc,
