Sir, - The issue of prisoner releases has become a very complex one. While those of us who support the Good Friday Agreement accept the inevitability of the early release of prisoners, the growth of the Real IRA increases my concern about such releases.
If, as Jim Cusack's article (The Irish Times, August 22nd) suggests, the Real IRA now has support in many traditional republican areas, it takes little imagination to recognise that similar splits have taken place within the Maze. My question is, therefore: how do we (and the leaders of Provisional Sin Fein) prevent the release of those prisoners who will provide firepower and bomb-making expertise for the Real IRA? -Yours, etc., David Griffin,
