A chara – It is with great sadness that I have learnt of the premature death of Prof Dáithí Ó hÓgáin. I was blessed to spend many years as an undergraduate and post-graduate student of Irish folklore with him at UCD. Ba fhear uasal le croí umhal é. He was a most kind, generous, gentle and humble man. A deeply religious spirit he was wise, witty, youthful, inspiring and ever patient with his students. His contribution to Irish and Celtic Studies is immense. A prolific writer, he leaves a wide- ranging legacy of work from academic scholarship to literary composition. He was a true patriot who loved Ireland and who gave his lifes work to bringing her language, literature, history and folklore to the Irish people. It was a privilege to know him. “Fíor-Fhile”, imithe ar shlí na fírinne – ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann! Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam álainn uasal.
Deepest sympathy to his beloved wife Caitríona, children, brothers, sisters agus a mhuintir uilig. – Is mise,
