Madam, - A small omission from E O'C's appreciation of John Moriarty (July 16th) is the fact that he trained as a national teacher. He was a student in St Patrick's, Drumcondra from 1956 to 1958, and among the luminaries he trained with were Pádraig Flynn and the McArdle brothers, Tommy and John.
As a writer, he would have been appalled at the headline on the opposite page which proclaimed "A new phenomena in our community . . ." This grammatical howler would have been particularly painful to someone who, in the words of your correspondent, based his style on "archaic classical modes." - Yours, etc,
JOE SHERIDAN, Killycard, Co Monaghan.
