Sir, - I am researching for a television documentary about Nelson's Pillar, which stood in the heart of O'Connell Street from 1808 to 1966.
Interest in the pillar is reviving now that Dublin is to get the controversial Monument of Light on the same spot. But Nelson's Pillar was also a controversial monument and this documentary will tell its story.
I would be very interested in hearing from any of your readers who have memories and stories about the pillar or personal stories that involved the pillar in some way. In particular, the bombing of the pillar in 1966 is an event etched in the memory of many Irish people. I am keen to hear from people who may have special memories of that event and its aftermath. - Yours, etc.,
