Madam, – I agree with Vincent Browne (Opinion, March 3rd) that the renaming of the stadium at Lansdowne Road is symptomatic of our cultural degeneration. It would be some solace if, at the very least, sports writers and commentators, when referring to past events there, would say that they took place at Lansdowne Road (not lazily the Aviva stadium).
Now, taking history, culture and pride into account (like Stade de France in Paris), “St Patrick’s Stadium” would have been a more desirable name for Dublin’s newly built international venue. – Yours, etc,
