Sir, - I feel compelled to write in relation to the current report on childcare. Life is all about choices: one of these is whether a parent works in the home or not! There continues to be an alienation of "home-workers", whose principles value the provision of their own childcare. Can I place it on record (as the husband of a "home-worker"), that I value her contribution to my four children's care very highly - even though the State and its advisory bodies do not!
Single-income families tend not to have the same level of disposable income as their double-income counterparts; this can cause much frustration. I encourage the Government to bear this in mind equitably before deciding on future childcare provisions. Failure to do so will have serious political consequences at the next election. - Yours, etc.,
Joe Davies, Wesbury, Stillorgan, Co Dublin.
