Madam, - While I fully concur with the Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy's view on certain publications' coverage of the tragic death of the young Garda and her infant and the content of Keith Nolan's letter (March 14th), I'm left feeling a little disturbed by the lack of balance in Noel Conroy's comments (March 13th).
Maybe I missed it, but did Mr Conroy come out and publicly condemn the Garda source/journalist (delete as applicable or maybe class as collusion?) that leaked the totally false allegation that Derek O'Toole, the man fatally injured by an off-duty garda in a traffic incident in Lucan, was "known to gardaí"? I don't think the GRA or the AGSI rowed in on this topic either.
An Garda Síochána should pay more attention to "the greater good" in all aspects of their public relations agenda and not be so hurt when the media they regularly use to put pressure on suspects via sensationalist storylines suddenly use the same tactics on a perfectly innocent person who just happens to be a member of the force.
