Madam, - Hats off to Pauline Bewick for her letter (August 25th) about the droit de suite. Sane words from an interested party.
It seems to me to be totally unreasonable to make the owner of a work of art pay a percentage to an artist upon resale.
What about works acquired over the years that are worth less than we paid? Should we get a refund to cover our losses when sold from the creator of the work?
Perhaps Robert Ballagh and his ilk would be prepared to forgo tax free status (in line with other countries which have enacted this law) in favour of droit de suite. - Yours, etc,
