Madam, - It was with considerable shock and surprise that I heard the director general of RTÉ state from the platform of the National Concert Hall at the launch of the new RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra subscription series that the concerts would be broadcast live on Lyric FM. Sadly RTÉ 1 abandoned these live relays some months ago.
Taken in the contexts of recent decisions to cut such programmes as Rattlebag and The Mystery Train on Radio 1 are we to assume that the wholesale rush to dumb down RTÉ1 is in full swing? - Yours, etc,
