Madam, - Congratulations to Arminta Wallace on her excellent article "An Irish comeback for the people's composer" (Weekend Supplement November 4th).
I was in the audience at the performance of The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins in the NCH in November of last year.
I enjoyed every moment in spite of the appalling review written by your paper's critic, Andrew Johnstone. Under the expert direction of conductor Proinsias Ó Duinn, one of our foremost conductors, the orchestra and choir gave the work an outstanding performance.
I entirely agree with Ms Wallace when she describes critics as "sniffy" about Karl Jenkins's electric style, not to mention his background in rock bands and TV commercials. - Yours, etc,
