Sir, - Dick Kavanagh, Ph.D. says in his letter (November 29th) the scientists are coming Indeed.
Few areas in life will escape the advancement of science. The most profound revelation of all, surely, is the fact that according to the new physics, matter at the subatomic level actually alters its behaviour when under observation. The prospect is mind boggling for the entire human race. The subjects of metaphysics, theology, and religion appear to be overdue for a radical rethink.
Poor old Galileo suffered an Inquisition for his simple science, and it took over 300 years before the theologians admitted he was correct and asked his "forgiveness". How long will it take today's churchmen to take cognisance of what the new physics is telling us, and its certain consequences for "religion" as it now stands? Would a theologian or a scientist care to respond? Yours, etc.,
