Sir, - Why is it that continuous assessment is being resisted by the Department of Education? Or spacing out the Leaving Cert exams? What about making the courses more student friendly and relevant? The only reason I can think of is that the Department seems to have no interest in us students, our views or needs.

Yes, so a full review of every syllabus would be expensive; so would extending the exams or having a form of continuous assessment - but none of these factors outweigh having a disillusioned and ill-prepared workforce, either at the end of the exams, or in a number of years' time after college.

We are constantly told the Leaving Cert is for us, that we're not doing it for anyone else, and that it's our futures that our based on it. If this is the case, why aren't the exams more student friendly? - Yours, etc.,
