Madam, – The report (Home News, December 22nd) on the matter of Lissadell House estate requires that some form of mediation take place to avert the loss of the intentions of the occupants and the loss to the nation of this valuable tourist and cultural asset.

The national interest must prevail over the local interest by the intervention of other bodies to provide a solution that will suit all sides.

I propose that the following bodies be consulted: North West Tourism, Fáilte Ireland, Mountaineering Council of Ireland, Irish Sports Council, Irish Farmers Association, FBD Insurance and any other group which has a history of dealing with access or right of way problems. A resolution that matches the demands and requirements of both the current owners of Lissadell House estate and Sligo County Council is imperative for the resolution of this matter of public cultural and historical importance.

I invite some local person or group of ability to now take up the reins from here. – Yours, etc,

RISTEÁRD Ó MUIRGHEASA,

Tudor Road,

Ranelagh, Dublin 6.
