Sir, - It is very unfortunate that the beautiful Irish language word "meas" (Letters, September 11th) should be hijacked by a tiny organisation which not only lectures to one section of Irish society, but also demands that national identity cards be issued to everyone, with the intention of further isolating the travelling community. It is frightening that language used in the dangerous days of 1937 Europe is still in vogue in 1997. - Yours, etc.,
