Sir, - The rioting in North Belfast is yet another instance of elements within the UDA, a paramilitary organisation officially on ceasefire, flagrantly abusing the peace process out of their loathing for the efforts being made by both governments in these islands to provide a more just society for both communities in the North.
Meanwhile, we continue to hear the mantra put out by "respectable" loyalists and their supporters in the media insisting that "Sinn FΘin/IRA" hand over every last bomb, gun and bullet even though most republicans and nationalists accept the futility of violence as a catalyst for progress.
The RUC has shown resolve in protecting the Catholic Ardoyne area in recent days.
