Sir, - I concur completely with Sean O'Sullivan's letter of September 19th regarding cycling and potholes in Dublin. The recent spate of trench-digging (much of it done by sub-contractors of telecom companies ), has made cycling to work an very hazardous exercise.
Has Dublin Corporation not got the will, or the authority, to force these contractors to make good the road surface when they have finished their work? It has now reached the stage where a mountain bike, rather than a normal push-bike, is needed to travel in any safety.
It seems like "Ah, shure it'll do" brigade are still doing their thing. Throwing a few shovelfuls of tar into a trench, and hoping that the traffic will smooth it out, is just not good enough. - Yours, etc.,
Mark Leach, Wheaton Court, Dublin 8.
