Madam, - Advertisement have appeared recently for a rock concert in the Phoenix Park in June. I cannot be the only person in Dublin who objects to this; many regular park users I have spoken to were appalled at the restrictions imposed on them by a similar event last year. The erection of miles of high fencing and the playing of amplified music are clearly in breach of the park by-laws yet there has been no attempt at public consultation, so far as I know.
The Phoenix Park is a cherished amenity. Its use for large-scale commercial events is highly questionable especially as there is no shortage of venues in the Dublin area. The advertisements carry the rider "subject to licence", yet tickets are already on sale.
Surely it is time somebody shouted "Stop"! - Yours, etc.,
ALEX CARROLL,
