A chara, - Cllr Dermot Lacey (January 6th) characterises Enda Kenny as having "a regrettable yet widespread attitude to local government".
Perhaps this particular ex-mayor would like to comment on:
1. The current local deal between Labour and Fianna Fáil which rotates the Dublin mayorship between these two parties.
2.The current national deal between Labour, Fianna Fáil and the PDs which reduces the time the Taoiseach spends in the Dáil.
If Cllr Lacey wants to ensure that "some focus could be placed on the role of local government" he should start by working to terminate some of these arrangements and breath some life back into the democratic process.
Finally, taking his own argument to its logical conclusion, can we assume that Cllr Lacey's obvious interest in local government precludes him from running for the Dáil? - Is mise,
