Sir, I was amazed to read that Tom Savage, chairman of the RTÉ board, says that the board did not find out about the Fr Reynolds case for four months (Home News, May 10th).

I vividly remember watching the programme on the night it was transmitted and being horrified by the way Fr Reynolds was treated by the reporter when asked to comment on the accusation in front of his house while still robed after a first communion service. His reaction of shock and dismay was absolutely clear, as was his dismissal of the accusation. I remember thinking that if RTÉ had got their facts wrong in this case, they were in deep trouble, judging by the priest’s reaction.

Surely some members of the RTÉ board must have watched the programme and have had a similar reaction? Your story says legal action was taken a month later, so it is incomprehensible that the board was not then told of it by the director general, who must have known the organisation was in trouble. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – It’s seldom I agree with his views or his arguments, but this time I must agree with every word written by Vincent Browne in his article (“Rabbitte has botched his handling of RTÉ inquiry”, Opinion Analysis, May 9th). – Yours, etc,
