Sir, – I welcome RTÉ’s belated apology, more than 23 years after the event, for its unjust treatment of Joe Murray and Pádraig Mannion (Home News, June 16th).
Could I suggest that this development might help to secure the repayment to the State of a sum approaching €100 million in fines paid by Ireland because of the failure of the Department of Agriculture to seek repayment of sums lost by the European Commission, largely due to the malpractices of the Goodman group of companies.
This money should be refunded by the beneficiary of the malpractices. It would not go amiss in these difficult times for the Exchequer. – Yours, etc,
