Madam, - Congratulations to Senator Henry (May 5th) for her thorough review of the evidence on the increased safety risks associated with SUVs. It is also worth drawing attention to the fact that although rigid "bull bars" can provide some protection to such vehicles' occupants in low-speed collisions with animals, they increase the risk of serious injuries to vulnerable road-users, especially pedestrians.
Will those responsible for reducing road deaths and injuries act on the available evidence by making and enforcing some unpopular regulations regarding these vehicles in urban areas in particular? Or will they prefer to take the easy option and waffle on about "changing attitudes"? - Yours, etc,
