Sir, - The provision of transport for children is an integral part of the State's policy of providing free primary and secondary school education to all its children. If free transport was not available then many rural children would not be able to attend school.
Of great concern to the parents of children using such transport is the age and condition of the buses and other vehicles used, particularly by Bus Eireann. I recently saw a number of school buses aged 20 years and more bringing full complements of children to school.
Modern buses are provided by Bus Eireann for passengers on other routes. Do Ireland's children not deserve the same facility? - Yours, etc., Patrick O'Connor,
Callow, Foxford, Co Mayo.
