Madam, - I have no axe to grind concerning civil partnerships/gay marriage but I have been following the lively debate on the issue in your Letters page. The arguments provided by both sides have been interesting, to say the least. But I would question the constant use of "studies" from various academic and professional bodies.
For example, Grainne Healy (March 4th) purports to refer to a host of studies by a range of academic societies in support of her argument.
Would that she had actually done so: simply saying that the American Psychological Society and others have published studies supporting her argument is not good enough.
At least Prof Patricia Casey (February 26th, March 3rd, March 10th) and Ian Kelleher (March 5th) have provided solid references for the interested reader to consult. - Yours, etc,
