Madam, – Eloise McInerney (Opinion, August 14th) states that marriage is defined as we wish to define it according to the spirit of our times.
This, however, is to misunderstand marriage. Marriage is rooted in natural law as being a covenant between a man and a woman, based on the complementariness of the sexes.
For Christians, this definition of marriage is also based on Revelation (cf Matthew 19).
If Ms McInerney wants a word to describe an institution which varies according to the spirit of our times, why doesn’t she coin a new word for it? – Yours, etc,
