Sir, – A serious issue regarding progression in learning at school has been identified by Dr Brian Fleming (June 2nd) – the effect of school attendance on the "rhythm of teaching".
Student absenteeism at second level is an escalating problem. Absenteeism from school has an negative impact on teaching and on the learning of all students, including those who have excellent records of attendance. It is an issue that school management and the plethora of educational support bodies need to tackle as a matter of urgency. – Yours, etc,
