School patronage

A chara, – I suggest that Paddy Monahan (Letters, July 8th) in his response to my letter of July 6th misses my point regarding patronage of primary schools. At no stage did I make a case for any form of patronage.

I merely suggested that the constant referencing to Catholic control over school patronage as a justification for repeating the mistakes of the past is unfair and unjustified.

I, like many of my colleagues, share the concerns of parents in their search for school placements.

In the absence of any political will to change the outmoded system of patronage, Catholic schools have responded to the changed landscape within the constaints placed upon them.
